Gold Standard Handyman provides accessible shower remodels for Veterans who have reached the contractor and estimate stage of the VA HISA process.

Before we schedule an estimate
This service is intended for Veterans who are already working through an approved HISA modification and are ready to obtain a contractor estimate.
VA approval first
If you are still establishing VA eligibility or waiting to begin the HISA process, please work with your VA health care team first. Once you reach the contractor-estimate stage, contact us.
Know your available benefit
HISA is a limited lifetime benefit. Current VA information lists benefit levels of $6,800 and $2,000 depending on eligibility. Your VA Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service can confirm your available lifetime balance.
If your benefit is not enough
If your available HISA benefit is less than the cost of the prescribed shower project, you must be prepared to personally cover the difference before we proceed with the project.

A repeatable approach helps control the project cost.
Rather than treating every HISA shower like an unlimited custom bathroom remodel, Gold Standard uses a standardized shower base, wall system and a limited selection of finish patterns. This approach is intentional. It allows me to control material and labor costs so qualifying projects can be completed within the Veteran’s available $6,800 HISA benefit, without requiring the Veteran to pay the difference out of pocket. The choices are more limited than a fully custom bathroom remodel, but the goal is to provide a clean, functional and accessible shower while making the most of the benefit available.
Gold Standard does not install glass pivot shower doors on VA HISA shower remodels. This is a standing project policy intended to avoid a door system that can be damaged or pulled out of alignment when subjected to downward force.
Extended service area for VA HISA showers
VA HISA shower projects are considered across a larger area than Gold Standard’s normal handyman service area. We have completed VA shower work approximately 1.5 hours from home and may travel farther for the right project. Longer-distance projects are reviewed individually, and overnight lodging may be used during installation rather than adding hours of daily driving.
Send us your project location first. Distance alone does not automatically disqualify a VA HISA shower project.
What happens after you contact us?
Bob, Gold Standard Handyman’s AI project assistant, will collect the basics first: your location, where you are in the HISA process, your available benefit amount, the prescribed shower modification and photos or documents that help us understand the existing bathroom.
Logan reviews the project and handles the contractor estimate and field decisions. After VA authorization and funding are in place, materials can be purchased and the installation scheduled. Most of Gold Standard’s standardized HISA shower installations take approximately 2–3 working days, depending on existing conditions, complexity and available help.
Gold Standard stands behind its installation workmanship. Product warranties, when available, are provided by the product manufacturer. Damage caused after installation by falls, impact, excessive force or misuse is not a workmanship defect. Read the full Workmanship Warranty.
